Central Jail Srinagar

Central Jail Srinagar is the oldest jail in the UT, its building also bears signs of age and decay. Lots of repair and renovation is done every year to keep it secure and in a good condition. Once located outside the city of Srinagar near the hillock of Hariparbat, the extension of the city has since over-taken it and human settlements have come around it. District Jail Jammu

District Jail Jammu was commissioned during the Pre-Independence days and has served the erstwhile state well even during height of militancy. Like Central Jail Srinagar, this jail was also established during Maharaja's time and lots of renovation, addition and modification has been carried out to fortify it against the attempts of jail escape or jail break. District Jail Kathua

The District has strategic importance because of Indo-Pak border and the number of routes for infiltration and smuggling activities. Some of the border areas of the District have been affected by the militant activities mostly for crossing over of militants with arms and ammunition with the intention of committing violence and creating communal /law and order situation. The law and order requirements of the District have also been quite considerable and the District jail has been in a position to fulfill the requirement satisfactorily. District Jail Bhaderwah was formally situated in the Historical fort of Bhaderwah at Qilla Mohalla which was closed in the December 2007. Sub Jail Reasi

Sub-Jail Reasi was commissioned in the year 1956 on a small piece of land. The intake capacity of this Jail is 26 inmates. This Jail is about one and a half hour journey by taxi from a very revered religious place of Hindu Pilgrimage named Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Shrine. In view of the increase in the crime rate in the area, there is a proposal lying with the district administration for allotment of the land for the construction of new Jail. Institute of Correctional Services, Mishriwalla Jammu

Institute of Correctional Services at Mishriwala was inaugurated on 6th October, 2017. It is 15 Kms away from Jammu city. The Institution provides basic training to the Jail staff and also pre-promotional and refresher courses including short term training courses for in-service prison personnel.
The methodology adopted for conducting the course employs both academic training as well as field training. Active pedagogic diversified methods such as brain storming, roles plays, case studies, orientation talks and work place exercises are being applied for training.
